Light Benders Kit

Description

As a Light Bender we will explore elements and how they form compounds.  Next, we will investigate how properties of matter such as salinity, pH, density, and temperature affects heat transfer, brine shrimp hatching rates, and baking. Lastly, we will explore potential and kinetic energy, light, heat, sound, and electrical energy.

Investigations and labs include:

*electrolysis of water

*electroplating

*steam distillation of essential oils

*disposable camera lens distortion

*brine shrimp hatching

Scholars will make their own essential oil and hydrosol, create their own camera filters, build a circuit board game, hatch brine shrimp, copper plate a heart-shaped pendant and more!!

This physical science kit is for the virtual learner who loves the hands-on experience. It includes most items that you will need for all the labs in this unit except for a few consumable items.

1 disposable camera, 4 colors of cellophane sheets, 2 test tubes, 1 apron, 1 pair of goggles, 1 pair of gloves, 2 small containers, 2 thumb nails, 1 pipette, 1 -9V battery, 2 thermometers, 1 mason jar, 2.5 ft of  copper tape, 1 buzzer, 2 pull back race cars, 1 ruler, 1 graduated cylinder, pH strips, water quality analysis kit, brine shrimp eggs, 2 LED lights,  2 alligator clip leads, 1 copper electrode, 20 g of CuSO4 (copper sulfate), 1 heart-shaped pendant, 1 laminated periodic table of elements, 100 beads, and 10 pipe cleaners, 1 hand lens, 4 straws and all lab sheets  (via download).
